FOUNDATION

RIDING
101

The best option for those new to mountain biking and want to get off to a solid start.

    • Beginner to early intermediate riders in a non-lift assisted terrain.

    • This course is perfect for those that are new to mountain biking, or if you want to brush up on the often-overlooked basics.

    • This session focuses on introducing you to the two fundamental skills of mountain biking – body position and braking.

    • Throughout the session, we’ll keep it simple and stick to these core skills – you’ll be amazed at how much we can unpack some seemingly simple concepts!

    • We will dial in how you can ride with a more mobile, centred and balanced position on the bike in a variety of trail situations.

    • Trusting your brakes and ability to acutely control speed allows you to ride entirely at your pace, giving you confidence to approach and unlock new sections of trail.

    • We’ll cover how and when to apply your brakes for maximum control on the trail.

    • We’ll bust some of the common myths that still exist in mountain biking.

  • There is a ton of information in this lesson, that aims to give you a well founded start to your mountain biking journey. We’ve kept the content to what you ‘need to know’ and cut the ‘nice to know’.

    • A stable, balanced riding position that’s adaptable to different trail situations.

    • Total control over your speed on the trail.

    • Appropriate gear selection.

    • Simple trail scanning techniques, to see more of the trail.

    • Duration –Approximately 4 hours. We’ll have a break halfway through the session.

    • Location - Seven Mile Reserve (mostly green trails)

INTRO TO QUEENSTOWN
BIKE PARK

Confidently approach Skyline Bike Park. We’ll show you how to safely progress in this world class facility.

    • Beginner to early intermediate riders that want to tackle the Queenstown Bike Park.

    • This course is perfect for those that are new to bike park riding, or if you want to brush up on the often-overlooked basics.

    • This session is like our Riding 101 course, but with a descending/bike park focus.

    • We’ll have a theme of ‘minimum terrain, maximum technique’, so you can acquire skills in a safe environment and develop your skills on unintimidating trails.

    • We will introduce you to the two fundamental skills of mountain biking – body position and braking.

    • Throughout the session, we’ll keep it simple and stick to these core skills – we’re all about spending more time on less, rather than less time on more.

    • We will spend most of our time on how you can descend with a more mobile, centred and stronger position on the bike in a variety of bike park trail situations.

    • We’ll cover how and when to apply your brakes for maximum control on when descending. Being able to control your speed properly is a huge confidence booster and essential for safe progression.

    • We’ll bust some common myths to set you off on the straight and narrow.

  • A confident, calculated approach to introducing yourself to the awesome Skyline bike park. Downhill skills-focus throughout this lesson give you the best base to progress your riding.

    • We’ve kept the content to what you ‘need to know’ and cut the ‘nice to know’. Less fluff means quicker progress.

    • You’ll have a stronger, more powerful position on bike that allows you to ride more efficiently – no more burning muscles after 1 lap. We guarantee you’ll have more fun in the park!

    • Total control over your speed on the trail. You’ll discover how much more you can trust your brakes after this.

    • Knowledge on what do when you’re riding the Queenstown Bike Park – no more guess work.

    • How to safely approach your progression in the bike park. No one likes injuries.

DEVELOPMENT

CORNERING
FUNDAMENTALS

A building is only as strong as its foundation. Fundamental cornering skills over two evening sessions to kick start your cornering journey.

    • Beginner riders who have already taken Riding 101 or Intro to Skyline.

    • Intermediate riders who are comfortable adapting their body position on the bike.

    • This is the perfect follow on from our Riding 101 or Intro to Skyline Bike Park. In fact, we reckon this course runs best if you have already taken one of these.

  • Corners, Corners, Corners! We will introduce you to fundamental cornering tools to add to your tool box, so you can approach a wider variety of corners with confidence.

    • How to adapt and adjust your body position on the bike as you ride corners.

    • How to ‘look through’ corners.

    • Introduction to bike-body separation through corners.

    • Have the tools to positively approach all types of corners - berms, flat corners and everything in between.

    • You’ll be railing corners with more stability, adjustability and grip.

    • Total control throughout corners - driving, not surviving. Sounds like fun to us!

    • Duration - 2 x sessions of 2.5 hours each.

    • Location - Skyline Bike Park (mostly green trails)

    • Small group sizes for maximum learning.

    • Dates - Beginning Thursday January 19th/26th 2023 at 5pm

REFINEMENT

JUMPS AND
DROPS

Time to get airborne! Confidently approach jumps and drops to achieve safe, consistent outcomes. Sounds like fun to us.

    • Those that lack confidence on jumps and struggle to achieve consistency in the air and landings.

    • Strong intermediate riders that have consolidated a strong and stable body position on the bike.

    • Our Cornering Fundamentals is great preparation for this lesson.

    • How to approach jumps and drops with the right mentality - safe progression is the name of the game here.

    • Correct body position throughout jumps and drops to achieve consistent outcomes - no bucking broncos!

    • Timing and coordinating your movements to ride different shaped jumps and drops.

    • You’ll get yourself in the air!

    • Most importantly, you’ll be doing so with total control over how you do. Get a little air? No problem. Clear that table top? Sure.

    • A safe, calculated structure to use when you approach new jumps and work towards increasing your air time.

ADVANCED
CORNERING

Squeeze out those marginal gains. Advanced riding techniques to unlock the dark art of cornering mastery. Held over a series of week night sessions.

    • Strong intermediate riders who have already taken our cornering fundamentals course.

    • Advanced/expert riders wanting to fine tune their cornering skills.

    • This is the nitty gritty. Riders on this course should already be cornering consistently, but want to seek out performance gains.

    • Riders should already have sound position-awareness. The ability to manipulate individual body parts on the bike is essential.

  • A variety of advanced cornering techniques and tools to apply to corners of various speed, shape and size.

    • Advanced level bike-body separation. We’ll get your body moving into powerful driving positions.

    • Manipulating individual body parts to achieve various cornering outcomes.

    • Braking zones for race level cornering skills.

    • Pressure control through corners.

    • You’ll more carry speed and flow through every corner.

    • Total control over how much grip you want to generate through corners.

    • An efficient approach to cornering - save energy for the rest of the trail.

    • An adjustable, adaptable and dynamic approach to corners.

    • Duration - 3 x sessions of 2.5 hours each.

    • Location - Skyline Bike Park.

    • Small group sizes for maximum learning.

    • Dates - Beginning Wednesday January 18th/25th/1st 2023 at 5pm
